well, i played against very aggressive offside trap today, yet i easily managed to score 4 goals and get 9/12 shots on the goal. Sure i had 20+ offsides, but that was mainly due to my midfielders getting past their defense line (this is where some adjustments should be made, midfielders shouldn't look to pass if they are past opponents defense) and passing to my attackers. with advanced formation, it's kind of "easy" to beat offside trap if you know how to set your players. Also have some versatility, don't just go with the flow, use CF and expect a win. |

I think that people like Kasul, are using the advanced formation to counter it. However many are not. There's a lot of people who want to buy players and then can't be bothered to spend a few hours working it out. It's starting to feel a lot like the invention of real football, where people come up with ideas and others find a way around it. I love the cut and thrust. |

Now it doesn't work and they are angry. CF's can work, but you gotta work on them in the right way. |

Its the first time i went through this thread, and now i know that i am not the only one to feel that offside trap set by few managers are very negative play. When my midfilders pass ball to forwards from somewhere around center of pitch, i get a offside call, because my opponent's defenders are almost at center of pitch. And if rarely, my forwards break free, they are brought down and no punishment for his defenders. its toooo bad. Edited by Sreek 17-11-2011 02:59 |

The other side of this argument is that there are things around this type of play. You need to adjust your squad to beat it, and remember that there are a lot of offside calls in real life too. I agree with the foul situation, but if you red card all the defenders for taking out your strikers you will never recieve the ball in your attacking half of the field. Remember that the sim will not adjust your formation for a red carded position. | 17/11/2011 03:44 |

I've watched quite a few games recently where both teams are playing a high offside and all the play is in the centre 1/4 of the field with balls just being kicked around and offside whistles going. Frankly I think its completely absurd and totally boring to watch. I will be campaigning for the following to fix this ridiculous trend: 1. long through balls (not just past the halfway line) that wingers and fast forwards can run onto like they would in a normal football match. 2. Sideways passing if the attackers are in-line never resulting in offside 3. 2 on 1 against a GK will 9 times out of 10 result in a goal. You will still be able to play for offside if you want to, but you risk losing 8-0 if you play an offside line beyond the halfway line. |

I agree that its boring to watch 2 high offside teams play each other. But you cant just blame people for taking advantage of the sim... I doubt this strategy will change unless the coding of the sim itself changes. |

I'm not blaming people for taking advantage of the sim, I'm forced to use it myself. Coding is being changed on an ongoing basis, remember before there were no thru passes - they just not long enough now, thats a tweak thats not too difficult. Fixing a sideways pass is simple enough, they have improved off-sides already quite a bit. The last one would be quite a major change but still possible. |

It will have to change. People like me who tried to avoid playing in that way now started looking into it. So soon will have the majority playing with the high offside line. Then we can forget about logging on to watch the match. Not good for the game. | 17/11/2011 13:27 |
