Fast progression and short player life, or Slow progression and long player life?

more realism? that would mean, that one season would be played for 8 months rather than only 4. the game could be more interesting if a player could progress faster. i think in the current sim, a year in a players life is 2 years in a clubs history ( seasons )... how does that work ? sorry if this is is not accurate, as i am quite new to the game.
