spent the first half of this season going for defensive solidity, works great vs worse/equal opposition, see first 4 weeks of pl season for how it worked vs much better teams. I will make wingers into fullbacks if it kills me tho.

you don't just make wingers into fullbacks, you train them into WINGBACKS in lieu the much WINGFORWARDS in the game, then you are good to go with your plan.

i don't got time for training players , stats all there, just hard getting the lines right to do that tactic.

No shame in that, buddy.
It seemed you set up to not be embarrassed, essentially seeing a 1-0 loss as a victory. As you kind of said, against even/worse sides you can afford to do this if your goal is to avoid relegation, but any ambition approaching topping difficult tables requires something a little more attacking.
All this is obvious, of course, but rather than face a yo-yo problem of being big fish, small fish, big fish, small fish when you go up/down divisions or settle into a division, the PL could actually be useful in this respect in terms of creating a longer-term strategy of learning when to raise and when to fold.
You could try and set up friendlies against similar teams, upper Div 4. No games you know beforehand you will win, no games you know you will lose. This way you'll have a much more realistic yardstick of where you are.

not sure if i could have done better whatever but was mos def too defensive early this season.

i'm happy relegation or not(from pl not getting rel'd from d4), but a lot happier if not, even with the loans i started with by far the worst team in c1, is a bit better now so #10 is the goal.

I agree - I don't think you could have got much better results than you did, given your baptism of fire in the PL, so that's not in question. Top to bottom, no teams in C1 have many easy games.
My point could have been more succinct.
You'll need 2 ways of playing.
- One which is prepared to get your ass kicked in the PL by most teams (as it's not a fair battle), which you'll be able to tweak in the PL most games and will be good practice a) for the tough teams in Div 4, PL and your final cup game(s), and b) thinking into the future, for when you get to Div 3. The goal here is to turn those 3-0s and 2-0s into 1-0s and draws.
- Another which is more attacking which can be fine-tuned against similar teams in friendlies and against weaker PL and league opposition.
The art is in not only fine-tuninig these, but knowing which to use when. This is how I work it.
Once you get the hang of using 2 different styles (maybe more, if you're brighter than I am) you'll need the first one less and less.
This way your tactical knowledge will increase as fast as your squad avg.

Bad luck, Mayor, you were the better team today.
1 point from that weekend is a harsh treatment, but you'll do better next weekend.
