The Ninjas: Shadow Masters (Season 3)

Welcome to season 3. Once again, the ninjas kicked off another thrilling season which looks like a “winner takes all”. Beyond the finances, however, is a great community of participants who make the game more fun. And if you were wondering why the current name of the league is Shadow Masters (.XOXO), it is because .XOXO won it the last time. @solirocket, @grantis45, sonymose and ABC DEFG rounded up the top 5 for Season 2.

The Shadow Masters did welcome two new members into their fold. clau2510 (FC Infinit Arad) and -ANCO- (Skorpions Blue) will be playing their debut season and their experience in the game is expected to throw up even more exciting fixtures. With 182 cracking games in all, there will be no easy matches for the eventual winner. This was reflected in the opening weekend with 14 games played.

Weekend 1 Round-up:

Such was the level of competition that only 2 clean sheets were kept as the ninjas completed their first round of games. Here is a round-up (Some team names are not spelt the exact way):

Saturday

Aston Villa 0-3 Pansies: Pansies shocked Aston Villa at Camp Hew as they went home 3-0 winners. It was not until 45 minutes that Pansies scored their first goal and many would think that their victory was helped by the sending off of Aston Villa’s only CDF.

FC Ubuntu 2-2 Shinobi: For the second consecutive season, the defending champions failed to win their first game as FC Ubuntu and last season’s champions, Shinobi, drew an even game at the Orange Arena. Shinobi’s Donte "David Silva" Mazur scored a second half equalizer and picked up Man of the Match award.

Team Stowgood 1-1 ☯ 忍 F. C ☯ ℠: Team Stowgood’s Elias Seklawi scored for his side and later picked up an injury. However, ☯ 忍 F. C ☯ ℠ has Marcial Leon to thank after he scored an equalizer in the final 10 minutes of the game. Team Stowgood’s manager, Stowgood, will not be happy after his side failed to capitalize on the sending off of ☯ 忍 F. C ☯ ℠’s Bernd "XOXO" Falkenmayer for a second bookable offence.

Drunken Monkey 3-2 Al Ahly: Last season’s runner-ups, Al Ahly, performed below expectations as they lost their season’s opener. Drunken Monkey dominated the game and won even though they ended the game with 10 men.

Ninja 0-4 Swift Shadows: This game was closer than the score-line looks. The players of Ninja must be beating themselves after they dominated possession and had more shots but failed to score. Ninja’s GK scored an own goal while Swift shadows were very efficient in their game to end the day as league leaders.

Junior Barcelona FC 2-1 Skorpions Blue: Skorpions Blue’s Louis "KAPI" Shilton scored the first goal and was later substituted after picking up an injury. Whatever sonymose told his players at the interval worked as they scored 2 second half goals to run away winners despite having their RIM pick up a red card.

FC Infinit Arad 1-3 Brentford FC: FC Infinit Arad scored first but were outclassed at home in front of 89,000 spectators. Brentford FC registered 3 different scorers on the score sheet as they got a deserved victory.

Interesting Stats:
FC Infinit Arad’s RW, Kristo Viikmäe scored the first goal of the season (03:41).

SUNDAY (Match Day 2)

All the remaining clean sheets were lost as two home wins, two away wins and three draws were recorded on Match Day 2. Here is the recap:

Brentford FC 3-2 Junior Barcelona FC: With 7 minutes to go, Brentford FC led a seemingly one-sided match by three goals. However, two late goals by Junior Barcelona FC made for a nervy ending. The travelling fans of Junior Barcelona FC who were already making their way out of the City Ground quickly returned to their seats when Brian "Alexis Sanchez" Ferguson scored their second in the 88th minute. The home crowd went silent but the tired legs of Junior Barcelona FC could not produce another goal.

Swift Shadows 3-1 Team Stowgood: Swift Shadows maintained a 100% start to the season as they hit three past the GK of Team Stowgood. Zé Manuel Telmo pulled one goal back in injury time to keep the score-line respectable. Even though Team Stowgood’s manager, Stowgood, was quick to point out the fact that his CF picked up an injury, he had no complaint about the sending off of CDF Josué Val who he thinks deserved some rest.

Al Ahly 1-2 FC Ubuntu: Al Ahly lost a second straight game but put up a much improved performance compared to their last game. The game looked like it was heading for a draw until an 78th minute penalty by Axel Lahme earned a hard-fought victory for FC Ubuntu at the Cairo Stadium.

☯ 忍 F. C ☯ ℠ 0-0 Aston Villa: Aston Villa picked up their first point of the season as they held ☯ 忍 F. C ☯ ℠ to a goalless draw. ☯ 忍 F. C ☯ ℠ dominated possession while Aston Villa created more scoring opportunities but none of the players was able to score their side’s first goal of the season.

Shinobi 1-1 Pansies: The manager of Pansies will be thankful that none of his players picked up an injury in a game that saw an astonishing 23 fouls committed against them. A yellow card was all the referee could show for it. Shinobi was very wasteful in front of goal as Pansies did just enough to prevent the defending champions from winning their first game of the season.

FC Infinit Arad 1-1 Ninja: The spectators were still making their way into the Cardinal Arena when FC Infinit Arad’s Samir Belal scored the opening goal. The game turned into a heated tussle and forced the referee to produce and evenly distribute four cards (2 reds and 2 yellows – with FC Infinit Arad collecting the 2 reds). Ninja’s Domenico Peccarsini scored his side’s first goal of the season in the second half to move his team off the bottom of the table.

Skorpions Blue 0-3 Drunken Monkey: Drunken Monkey practically reiterated the notion that attack is the best form of defence as they picked up their second victory in as many games. Skorpions Blue may have been undone by the injury picked up by Jewel "KONRAD" Krishna. Roberto Pregâo took full advantage to move his goal tally to four with a hat-trick but it was Zheng Yanping who was awarded Man of the Match for starring in the midfield and providing an assist.

Interesting Stats 2

Roberto Pregâo of Drunken Monkey scored the first hat-trick of the season.
The last time Al Ahly suffered a back-to-back defeat was on 21st August 2011.
