Yes, there's another thread complaining about offside... First, it's not that I'm just frustrated about loosing games because of my players being offside all the time. In fact I more often win than loose because of offside. I simply think that the rising number of teams using the offside trap makes boring games. Take for example my last game: http://uk.strikermanager.com/partido.php?id=4152914&accion=datos If You enjoy being bored You might consider watching it. Here both teams were playing offside trap. The result: My team was offside 27 times. The opponent team 23 times. Oh, by the way, besides a tsunami of offsides there also was one goal scored, I was the lucky one who finally won 1:0 giving me 3 valuable points in my league. So, why I'm still complaining? Frankly, I felt bored to death watching this game. It was no fun. Why was it no fun? Most of the time nothing really happened worth watching. Plus, it's not really challenging, because any dummie can set up an offside trap in this game. You don't even need a good team to do it, the offside trap levels the playfield in a crusome way and thus devaluates any effort to build a good team. In real life games with two teams playing offside traps are also no fun to watch, but in striker manager it's even worse, since it's just a static game that's still full of bugs. In real life players learn even within one game to adapt and try to avoid being offside after hearing the referees whistle the first dozen times, here You see quite often the very same offside over and over again. On top of that there are the many bugs still in this game. It's like having two teams in real life playing offside, plus having a complete idiot as the referee who doesn't quite understand the offside rule himself and loves the sound of his whistle. Over and over again there are offside calls, where clearly is no offside. A few days ago my team had two offsides for example, where the ball was played by the opponent team in a free kick and it was still called offside. To conclude, I already experience too many games with no fun, because of too many offsides. They say all I have to do is adapt and I won't loose any more due to the offside trap of my opponent. Well, I'm already passed this point and have adapted, now I might be able to pull this kind of games off, but the fun of watching the game has gone and I'm afraid it might get worse, because sooner or later pretty much everybody left in SM might use an extreme form of offside trap and then You might end up with a ballet of soccerplayers in midfield, dancing to the tune of the referees whistle. It would be great and bring back a lot of the games' lost fun, if the developers could come up with changes, that do not do completely away with offside (it's still part of football), but at least counter a development, that will otherwise completely eliminate the fun of watching Your teams' games. |

I played against a team with offside trap today. I made adjustments to cover his people defensively, and there was always a player waiting for outlet pass...wide open. Speed aside, the big thing was for me to get AROUND the last defender. If you get around the last defender, he is slowed 30% at midfield! Unless the defender speed is way high (where you wouldn't win anyway) you are going to likely outrun him. Once past that last defender, I could either break on goal or collect foul. Once he moved his offside trap higher, his pain only increased. that's about all I'll say publicly, because i'm not going to post all my secrets here... But by getting right personnel and formation/tactic it is possible to beat most oppressive offside trap... |

I think You're missing my point, rebsiot. I've already figured out how to play an opponent, that uses offside trap and I have at least a good chance to win these games. I just don't like, what I see, when I watch their simulation. Have a look on the one I linked in my original posting. It's just boring, boring, boring..... .....and watching football is supposed to be fun, fun, fun! |

mhm, would have been a game with some more chances on both sides if i didnt have the log in bug all day yesterday and couldn't study your game. Anyway, i agree with you as far as offsides go.. +1 one solution i could think of is to limit offsides only to outter thirds of the pitch (yes, unreal, but that's where offsides happen in real life anyway). Horath> one solution i could think of is to limit offsides only to outter thirds of the pitch (yes, unreal, but that's where offsides happen in real life anyway). not entirely unreal, i may be revealing my age and nationality, but this was the rule in the NASL. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1972_North_American_Soccer_League_season NASL changed its offside rule during the season on June 26. They created a "Blue Line" which was an offside line across the field, 35 yards from the goal line. Thereafter, no player could be offside unless he had crossed the 35-yard line. This made the NASL unique in the soccer world; however, the league did not receive approval from FIFA. |
