I can clarify that neither @vgates nor wetback have taken tactical avice from me.
These are two of the best tacticians in the PL in their own right, and with wetback in particular I have had many brilliant battles. I'm looking forward to wetback joining C1 again to resume where we left off!

This Sunday marks The Olympus Circle's 100th round of competition. In celebration of this, I will try to find some stats to show various aspects of the PL, both past and present.

The first thing I have worked out is how well we are doing this season...

How well are you doing this season? It's not an easy question to answer in some cases. I don't know what your initial targets were, nor where you will finish, but I can help you with analyzing your PL performance. Of course, for some teams the PL is not a priority, and that's great as the aim of the PL is to help you in your regular games. But, that aside, how well are you doing in the PL against the 41 other teams?

We know C1 to be the most challenging group, but just how much more challenging is it than your group? At the end of the season, us admins initially use a crude tool to help group new teams into the Adept leagues to try and make things fair. I hope you'll agree, after this, that we did a good job! The crude tool is our Olympians' Division numbers. Now, we know that some teams are at the top of their Divisions, and some are at the bottom, but the hope is that after 14 teams this kind of averages out to give a fair reflection of the situation.

If we average (mean) JUST the Division number of our 3 PL groups, we find:

- C1 has an average Division number of 3.64. That is, the 'average' C1 team is between Div 3 and Div 4.
- A1 has an average Division number of 3.86.
- A2 has an average Division number of 3.93.

Pretty close!

So we can see that it IS slightly harder to score points in C1 compared with the other two groups. We could just total up all the points in all 3 groups and say that the team with the most points (Antarctica, by the way) is having the best PL season. However, as we've already proved, Mayus has an ever so slightly easier task than teams in C1. We could just say that the team at the top of C1 (that's me) is having the best season in the PL, but then I haven't scored the most points, which doesn't seem fair either. What we need is a coefficient, a way or comparing how many points we all have relative to the difficulty of our PL groups.

If we take A2, as the slightly easiest group, as the base, we can achieve this. If we look at the relationship between A1 and A2, we find that A1 is 1.85% more 'difficult' than A2 (told you we were close!), and C1 is 7.84% more difficult than A2. We can then attribute each PL group a standard coefficient (there is an obvious limitiation to this, in that if you're above that Division number, you technically find the rest of the group easier than someone who is below it, but this complicates things further).

A2 has a coefficient of 1 (base).
A1 has a coefficient of 1.0185.
C1 has a coefficient of 1.0784.

If we multiply the number of points by the coefficient of your group, we get a kind of weighted points total which takes into account the quality of your opposition.

We could just put all this into a table but this PL being what it is we're not going to ignore teams playing above 0% effort to get those points. Many teams have only 1 or 2 violations, which after 20 rounds means they still may have played some damn good football, but simply forgot to change tactics one weekend. We will therefore treat each violation with a 3-point deduction. I have already explained previously why I am unwilling to do this for the regular promotion/relegation tables, so this is just for here.

So, tl:dr, if we multiply your accumulated points by a group coefficient and deduct 3 points for each of your violations, we get...

Of course, as I said, some teams don't prioritize the PL. MESSI FC, for example, is not having the best of PL seasons, as I am sure Mubarack will agree, but he is doing exceptionally well in his regular league, the purpose of this PL. And it's by no means all about coming top. Some teams may be very happy with their showing this season, picking up good points in solid performances against tough opposition, and well done to them. This is only another way of showing a varyingly important aspect of our season.

Best of luck to all the honorable teams here, I hope you found this a new way of looking at things!
