sicox86 said: My personal thoughts are that it takes some time to build an empire, and then following this mantra Moyes should have stayed. In principle at least... For me, the 'problem' (and being one of the richest clubs in the world, I use the word problem loosely) is that to borrow a phrase from another rich club, Manchester United is "Més que un club". I believe 10% of the club's value is listed on the NYSE. Add in the opportunity cost of not qualifying for Europe next season, and the idea of sticking with Moyes and allowing him the £100m-200m it may take to get that aging squad back to title contenders is just too expensive to entertain. Manchester United were not looking for just a football manager. Clough may have failed in that role under the same conditions. Ferguson was a master of running an empire on several fronts - on the pitch was just one facet of his span of control. While Moyes may, may just have been the best football manager for the role at the time, was he the man to inherit the reins of possibly the largest sporting empire in the world? Evidently not. It's a shame, as like I said, I don't believe a real footballing dynasty can be built in less than a couple of seasons, I don't think Manchester United had any other alternative. Edited by sicox86 22-04-2014 22:00 When I think of ManU in terms of Si's quote regarding Barca, to me they represent entirely different things. For Barca, "Més que un club" is a culture, an attitude of perseverance. For ManU, to me it seems that quote is an attitude of ManU is a business first, football club second. And that is how I think Ferguson has always approached his players. Give a me a return on my investment as in a result or you're out. That is a fine approach for individual effort but I don't think it builds a team. And it would be fine for many other sports, but soccer is like no other team sport. It truly takes a team to win. Contrast Ferguson's reported approach to players with Brendan Rodgers. Which do you think would inspire a player, or yourself, to play your best as a teammate, in a team environment? I'm not sure being thought of as a widget on a spreadsheet generates the best in a player. What does the sacking of Ferguson's handpicked replacement say to the ManU players? |

A transfer season was what Moyes needed. He had been very bad in his first summer transfer season with fellaini only brought in.But he could not have been sure which players to bring before even managing them for single game.He brought in mata in january which is good buy and he could have brought in even better players in next transfer window..He had a very bad aging squad. No offence they may have best best before but were now fading away.Remember Alex fergusion was so successful even just before Moyes because he knew them from so long and knew how to bring the best out of them.Moyes did not atleast in his first season he could not.Little time was what he needed. |

He signed 2 ok players at massively exaggerated fees, Mata would have signed for Accrington Stanley if it meant gettin away from Chelsea and fuzzy head is not good enough for a top 4 team! Fergie left him a team full of shit , he'd tried rebuilding that team for 5+ yrs and failed, a task that moyes never had a hope in hells chance of putting right. The decision to sack him was purely damage limitation, their stock value jumped to its highest its been since fergie retired as soon as moyes was sacked! United are a laughing stock , no decent players want to sign for a team not challenging for honours, if he'd stayed another season the damage would have been unfixable | 23/04/2014 12:25 |

The way i see it, if Moyes was given another season,he would have built a good team or made them worse after spending the 200mil....but during his 10mths reign there was noting positive to suggest that the later would be achieved. | 26/04/2014 12:47 |

He deserved more time, thats all...dont expect the new coach or the wanna-be coach to win anything next season...its not easy as that, the squad and all technical crew must be in place first to talk of contending for anything! | 26/04/2014 12:59 |
