Brendan Rodgers - The carefully chosen one I don't know what this guy is telling the players but I am loving it. Who would have thought we would go from 7th to top 3 of the table with no major signings in the summer transfer window? I would have taken 4th place at the start of the season without thinking twice about it but was really hoping we would get top 3 (guarantees champions league). Congratulations to Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool for making this season this interesting with what could be the closest finish in the premier league. Same goes to the other teams. I am not sure exactly what Rodgers has done either but given that John Henry is majority owner, I suspect that Henry and Rodgers philosophy match up well - not buying huge name expensive players, giving younger players a chance and creating serious competition for the veterans. Rodgers was a youth manager for a long time and he seems quite no-nonsense. Henry has no problem buying a struggling franchise, looking for good value high opportunity players, and playing a long game. My bet is that gets around the locker room quick and people step up or get pushed out. Skytel is an obvious example of stepping up and Andy Carroll of getting pushed out - even if it is at a loss. Sturidge a good example of overlooked quality for value and Sterling of youth. I hope Liverpool pull it off. YNWL |

You have to say that Liverpool are playing the kind of football that most teams dream of. Highly exciting but also bringing about great results. Swansea with Rodgers in charge used to play great looking football but often didn't get the results they deserved. Liverpool's players have all bought in to Rodgers' mindset and the results are there for all to see. I believe that most neutrals would like to see Liverpool win the league. Rodgers and Liverpool FC have kept hold of their superstars (like Suarez and Gerrard), gotten the best out of under-performers on their team (Skrtel and Henderson), brought in under-performers from other teams (Sturridge) and developed great young talent (Sterling and Flanagan). Regardless of the play on the filed (which is amazing), fans want their teams to do these things. English fans especially should be excited about how Liverpool is doing this season. On Sunday against Spurs they started 6 English players - Johnson, Flanagan, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling and Sturridge. 5 of them should be on the plane to Brazil and all 5 of them can make a good case for a spot in the starting 11. |

Closest finish in the Premier League LOL You forget what heartbreak Man Utd fans experienced when Sergio Aguero stole the trophy away from us in the dying seconds of the Premier League. Goal Difference decided it that year, does it get any closer than that. One minute United are on top and keeping the trophy, City are losing, then not a few minutes later City are level, and then winning. A game that shattered United hearts everywhere. I don't think there will be a premier League race closer than that. |

Sir A. PlentyGoals said: Closest finish in the Premier League LOL Don't understand what's so funny really. You are talking as if Goal difference will definitely not be a factor this time around... please look at the board again. Not only could Goal difference become a factor this year but it's also 3 teams potentially in it. On the other side, the relegation battles are far from over with not 1, not 2, but all 3 bottom teams still having the chance to get out of the red zone. Could also go down to the wire. Those teams pretty much need 2 wins to put pressure on the 5/6 teams above them. I therefore stand by my statement, this "COULD" be the closest finish in the premier league. What makes this season even better? Manchester United are no where near the top 4 Edited by Patient 02-04-2014 16:33 |
