What is the obsession with closing "old" threads?

Threads here are closed after a couple of weeks because they are deemed "old".

No other forum I have ever participated in has used this "rule".

The result is that while there may be a relevant thread that you can add to, you have to create a new thread on the same topic instead.

This makes it that much harder for new players to gather info quickly and for others to expand on subjects that are already covered.

The many number of offsides threads is a good example. Instead of adding to the discussion, it is started over and over again with people havng to cover the same ground in the thread or not getting the benefit of a reply from other members because it is "yet another offsides thread" which they cant be bothered with.

Your process is creating information chaos - stop being trigger happy and chill out.

and no this does not apply to all mods - I think the early closers know who they are

I looked back through about a month of posts in general and D&Q and see only a handful of closed posts. A couple were because they issue was completely resolved. One had gotten completely off topic and had become a personal conversation. There were maybe one or two that could have stayed open. I personally don't close many posts and those that I do are because they are off-topic, degrading into name calling or is a dragged up post from a year ago saying "i like this idea."

I'm not sure I agree with the information chaos statement. The more likely cause is people not looking even a page or two back in the forums and creating entirely new posts about an issue that's been resolved.
