Would an aggression slider be a nice addition to the game?

It may be nice to have an aggression slider in the tactics setup, rather than having that attribute as part of effort.
You could increase the aggression perhaps for situations when you're David vs Goliath, or grudge matches, or you could decrease it for PL games and easier run-ins.
That way, it may even be possible to give the referees some kind of character, ranging from drill sergeant to young substitute teacher. This character could be made evident beforehand, so you'd need to keep the personality of the referee in mind before deciding to play a Holland v Spain 2010 setup.

I think that's a very pertinent point - there would need to be a downside of playing max aggression. This could most likely a proportionate increase in cards/suspensions, and perhaps an increased chance of injuring your own player, like if Aguero had damaged his hamstring standing on Luiz's ass.

i'd still set it at 100. a red card is worth it if i get to go in two-footed on David Luiz, or your star CDF & injure him for 10 weeks.

just playing devil's advocate do you see what i'm getting at?

initially i thought everyone would be 100% effort.. but late game substitutions killed the idea..

the thing is, if you start averaging 2 red cards a game, and that too in defene, you will automatically tone down.

That's what I was was thinking - we all have a limited pool of players, and red cards mess up substitutions, and gameplans. Still, like aleph says, there would be some times when it would be good to injure a particularly strong opponent, if it could be engineered that way, and at the end of the season, everyone would be all in, knowing that the suspensions and injuries don't carry forward.

It would certainly add an extra element of spice to a game or season, knowing that some teams are trying harder than others to hack their opponents to pieces.

edit - in reply to sanyam.

yup.

but it would be easy to sacrifice your B-team in a particular match if it meant the opposing team was missing players in a crucial game against a fellow PL member.

anyway, i've said my bit. it's not like it will get implemented anyway

well, exactly. whether that's a good thing or not would depend whether you are the one getting relegated. just imagine the butthurt all over the forums.
