Build an auction market for GBs just like the auction market for players.

I never read the coders' rationale for barring manager-to-manager GB sales when introducing the GB gift feature. I can't see how they'd be against exchanging real money for game money or vice versa because we already do that by redeeming GBs for features which we then monetize for game money. GB searches, the store, the kitchen, staff degrees -- all these are exchanges of real money denominated in Golden Balls for players, capital equipment, or staff that are all either sold or used to produce value that's later sold for game money.

This solution would of course improve the purchase problem for managers in markets where GB buys aren't possible, since even with the gifting mechanism, out-market managers often still have to ask fellow managers to gift real money for nothing in return. So this solution partially addresses that problem by providing an incentive on the in-market manager's side.

This solution also provides a new revenue stream for striker manager. While there will always be a significant number of players who will never spend real money to buy virtual value, the minority of players who are willing to make that buy are usually willing to do it repeatedly. This solution further incentivizes those repeat buyers.

So you want to be able to sell the GB's you've purchased for in game money?

You'd end up with new players with billions in game money being able to buy whatever players they wanted and not having to worry about repaying loans. Yeah currently you can do search + and find players that can be sold for a lot but at least there's a randomness to it

That's overstated.

Say 500 GBs go on auction for $100m. Would you spend $60, $120, or $180 at once to make 'billions of dollars' of game money? I wouldn't. And if it's not at once, how's it different from other GB uses? It's not.

Also, importantly, once the GB market opens up, the per-GB value will fall because many will be on auction. So the number of players who'd make 'billions of dollars' from GB sales would be very small, just as it is with search + sales.

Since I'm responding here, I'd like to list a couple limitations that I think might be useful so coders and managers reading this won't be unnecessarily spooked.

1. Limit the GB auction market to only paid GB managers, and disallow gifted or game money-purchased GB managers from reselling.

2. Maintain a high floor for GB sales. So only allow managers to gift 250, or 500 GBs or more. This will help maintain GB value and encourage real money purchases, instead of discouraging them.

3. End GB giflts. This further incentifizes real money GB buys.

What benefit do the developers get out of it?

Managers like you and me wont even get 1 Gb out of those auctions. There are managers out there who have billions to spend they will just outbid you for those free Gbs.

I can buy GBs. I barely use those. So I don't need to buy them on auction. But I'd definitely consider buying more if I could sell them for "billions." That's what the developers get out of it. People buy GBs so they can make more game money. Allow them to make more game money by selling a highly-sought in-game commodity, and they'll keep paying striker manager for the privilege.

I prefer to have game money rather than golden balls. 18/01/2013 20:12
