And we also have to hope those in es really hassle them...

I personally do think making defenders and even GK's better would be a good solution.

I think making defenders faster will simply catapult the game back to high OT days, and it actually penalizes tactics that create 1 v 1 opportunities. The better alternative to me is to increase shooting accuracy in 1 v 1 situations. 19/01/2013 02:40

making players better doesn't always mean make them faster. You can improve their tactics, improve the man marking, improve their passing in defense, stop them from running over the ball, improve the way they clear the ball 19/01/2013 02:52

Right, I was responding mainly to Horath's comment on making defenders faster. However, making defensive players better does not fundamentally address the issue of shooting from 30 yards and beyond has pretty much the same chance of scoring compared to shooting in the box and with only the goalie in front of you.

You seem to not understand what I am talking about here. I am not just talking about making defenders better, I am talking about making defenders AND shooting better so there are less one on ones but at the same time, less stupid misses. The main reason shooting is because admins want to keep the scoreline realistic I am guessing and just making shooting better "COULD" lead to scorelines of 10-8 between similar averaged teams. Yes those people who use OT should be punished but other times, the one on one's come from strikers just dribbling around 3-4 defenders of similar average.

Of course they could just improve shooting and make all of you guys happy but really, not even Manchester United would frequently beat an npower league team 20-0, not even in FIFA would that happen between 2 AI's.

I am not against improved shooting but this is an idea that both those who want perfect shooting and others who are for realism I think would love. Of course feel free to disagree and/or keep asking for better shooting, maybe the admins will change their minds about it one day.

nice to have a decent debate on this

the problem is that we're seeing is a striker completely through on goal with no defenders anywhere near him, having as much of a chance of scoring as a player surrounded by defenders or shooting from distance.

the scorelines in the current sim aren't representative of what is happening in the matches.

there are lots of different ways of trying to sort this out that can be tested in the beta without ending up with cricket scores. i would start by increasing attackers' shooting accuracy and defenders' chance of blocking if in close proximity to the attacker.

then if necessary, scoreline levels can be tweaked by increasing gk save ability.

why not improve close range (maybe progressively)but decrease striker speed progressively as they move closer to opponent goalpost. This way high OTs shall die as there shall be more reward in keeping defenders close to your Goal post but they cant be brought too close due to increased close shooting accuracy. This way managers shall be forced to keep your defs at optimum position which will be neither too close nor too far. This way managers will not have so many complains about OT and nor will be such problem of missing 1 vs 1 also scorelines will remain close(hopefully) 19/01/2013 17:12

offside traps have long been a dead tactic. there are tons of threads explaining how to deal with them.

let's stay on topic

One on one...
I feel the same way. My players shoot better when they're being defended by 2-3 players than by 1 or have a wide open net...

OK, making defenders better in general is fine. The side effect, though, is that it will drive up the already skyrocketed price on defenders. Sure enough there is a shortage of supply of good defenders now but it will still give people who are training defenders an unfair advantage.

I have an alternative proposal for reducing the seemingly unrealistic scorelines, e.g. 10-8, in case we make players shoot better in 1 v 1 situations. We can make players lose stamina at a rate (the base rate) proportional to how much their team is winning by. This is similar to what some managers are doing already -- when their teams are winning by a wide enough margin, they will switch to a tactic with lower effort level. Combined with a better shooting accuracy in 1 v 1 situations, this should solve both the problems of having Messi shooting like Fernando Torres and having unrealistic scorelines otherwise.

P.S.: I always love a healthy debate. So I thank you for all who participate. Hopefully this will not fall on dead ears.
