I'm pretty sure what I'm suggesting isn't feasible, but I'm going to do it anyway.

Currently when another manager pays a player's release clause, it's a hostile transfer, and that's it - the manager is informed that the hostile has been done, and he can either choose to sell immediately or wait 24 hours, at which point the sale goes through.

Since there is a 24-hour buffer already in place - why not give the manager of the hostiled player the opportunity to match that offer and therefore retain the player in question? There aren't many times that I'm bothered with the mass influx of cash on a hostile clause transfer, but there are occasions where I wouldn't mind having a chance to retain the player being foisted from my squad. (Case in point: I had a 68/25 LIM with a 55m release clause who was paid off - I now have a healthy amount of cash, but he was the best player on my squad, and I would've considered paying that amount to retain him. Lesson learned re: release clauses - and he was nearly tapped out anyway - but it still hurts.)

Anyway, just a suggestion. Not expecting any action, but it might be nice if hostiled are treated as offer sheets where the selling club has a chance to match or exceed to retain a player.

While i agree that it can annoying to lose a player, I disagree with your suggestion. The counterargument is that you are constantly marketing your players at there release clause. You are making the preliminary offer to your player at that salary. You always have the first chance to retain a player, and that comes via a higher salary.

Lesson here is have your clause way above what you would be willing to pay yourself because odds are if you would pay that amount a lot of others would too

You're right, it stings. But eliminating it would remove one of the most interesting parts of this game. It's one of the few things that sets striker manager apart. 01/11/2012 01:58
