Hey guys, this is taken after Sender's Super League preview. I make the same proviso* as Sender (please see below), and I also did not write about my own team to avoid bias, but if anyone else wants to, have at it. Proviso said: *I have looked at previous history, and latest transfers to make this article as accurate as possible sorry for any small or major errors or inaccurate information you may or may not come upon. I hope not to offend anybody with this post and tried to make it as positive and interesting as possible so uhhh.... hope you enjoy it! Hertha Berlin Div 5 / Group 153 Manager: 10maradona10 The Berlin-based club is still fairly new to the business, having been founded just days before Season 7 opening weekend. That didn't stop club manager Maradona from rapidly moving his squad up the rankings: Maradona engineered a last minute promotion for Hertha from its Div 6 starting position to its current Div 5 spot, despite finishing season 6 ranked only 5th on Div 6/Group 903's table. The club's acquisitions and squad development department hasn't quite lived up to its boss's great promotion negotiating skills, however. After a full season in Div 5, the club's senior squad still clocks in with a team average in the mid-30s. The starting 11 haven't fared better, averaging only 28.8 in Friday's successful season opener. A strong Power League showing for the Berlin squad will depend on its beefing up talent, and fast. Besides its $5m acquisition last season of club stand-out Stanislav Basler, Hertha Berlin has been loath to pursue new players, concentrating instead on capital improvements to it's soon-to-be 54 thousand-seat stadium. While his strategy has helped finances (top revenues at home last season topped-out at $1.8m before TV and sponsor awards, a respectable sum for mid-table Div 5 clubs), it remains to be seen whether Manager Maradona can translate club revenue into enough winning games to show well in RFM Power League rankings and avoid relegation from his Div 5 post. == d' kpj united Div 5 / Group 65 Manager: khairfieq This Malaysian club boasts a solid low-to-mid 40s team average and an impressive record: besides putting up a healthy 111 points last season -- enough to top its Div 6 group with few rivals in sight, -- the DKU senior squad held off competitors all the way through Round 4 of Season 7's Striker Cup, an admirable feat for any Div 6 team. And Manager khairfieq's Div 5 career may prove just as noteworthy. The senior squad nailed its Season Opener at d' guave land park stadium in Kedah. With several moderately-high forecast juniors waiting in the wings, and the beginnings of an enviable network of training centers (the first, a state-of-the-art facility in Uruguay), DKU will likely prove to be a franchise to watch in coming seasons. As for this season, expect a solid finish in the upper third of the RFM Power League table and a noticeable slow down in talent acquisitions and squad development, as Manager khairfieq will undoubtedly turn his attention to improving the club's d' guave land park home in coming weeks to ensure stronger long-term cash flow to finance DKU's bright future. == Manchester United Div 6 / Group 124 Manager: K.bright fc This American club finished in the middle of its Div 5 group last season, but Manager K.bright is determined to make it out this time. K.bright tasked Manchester's acquisitions office with a stream of buys in Season 7, including a well-executed hostile of young Bulgarian mid-fielder, Nikola Ignatov. Ignatov joined the club's junior squad in the opening weeks of Season 7 and progressed so rapidly that Manager K.bright ordered him promoted to the first team just yesterday, in time for the club's Real Futboll Managers debut. New Traford arena is abuzz with predictions of a MVP title for the young Ignatov, who at 51/17 still has more growing to look forward to. The senior squad made a solid showing at the club's Season Opener yesterday, with strong numbers at the back and from midfielder Mario Teufel. Keeper Eugen Behren, however, still not quite in shape following the off-season break, couldn't hold off a late-game shot from the opposition, and the team's similarly out-of-shape forwards failed to even the score board before the buzzer. Even after visits to the team's physiologist, though, Manchester's keeper and forwards will remain its Achilles heel, ripe for exploitation by RFM Power League's ambitious rivals. It remains to be seen whether the franchise can heal the wound and effectively guard its flank in time to secure Power League's contested title. And big spending last season, together with a just-implemented plan to add Pro Seats to New Traford arena and beef up cash flow down the road, say 'maybe not.' == Kinabalu Kings Div 5 / Group 238 Manager: Veronicazo Kinabalu Kings are a modest club out of Sabah, Malaysia. Their senior squad comes in at an average rating of about 39 -- respectable, but not fearsome enough to guarantee trophies in most Div 5 groups or any Real Futboll Managers league. Kinabalu's ratings challenges are only acerbated by the players' poor form and sour moods since returning from the off season (still un-rectified by the club's physiology and psychiatry staffs), a bench of only three substitutes, providing almost no contingency for in-game injuries or send-offs, and a tightfisted acquisitions office that has refused to close any new buys since the start of Season 7, despite per-game ticket revenue as high as nearly $5m at home. With this collection of challenges, Kinabalu could easily be written off as dead in the water. But looks can be deceiving, and Manager Veronicazo is no slouch, despite appearances. That's because the family jewels at Stadium Likas are all hidden away at the back of the house, kept carefully guarded and polished by a dozen baby-faced budding superstars who could scarcely buy themselves a drink in many parts of the world. While Manager Veronicazo has abandoned the club's veterans to small ball on the main pitch, the boss has holed away on the practice field, working closely with the club's likely-80+ youth coach to put Kinabalu's kings (and money-makers) of tomorrow through their paces. The engine of this little star machine isn't cash flow (which Veronicazo variably hordes or plows into Sabah's soon-to-be 90k-seat stadium), but an inconspicuous children's training facility run by Dutch coaches and housed in the Netherlands. Manager Veronicazo has ordered club staff to maintain absolute secrecy regarding operations at the Dutch school. But if kids like 16-year-old mid-fielder Han Ridder are any indication, no expense has been spared in constructing and running this facility. Bottom line: RFM Power League and Group 238 have little to fear from Kinabalu Kings this season. It's next season they should be worried about. == Tonybch Div 5 / Group 71 Manager: tbst06 Veteran Manager tbst06 has been around the world, and he's taken his club with him. This Division 5 team already boasts a Div 5 trophy in its case. But after a disastrous stint in Div 4 / Group 50, tbst06 was forced to return to humbler pastures, dejected players in tow. But time heals all wounds, and in tbst06's time in the business, he's apparently learned a thing or two about bandaging holes in his line-up -- and his tactics. Because, while the Tonybch senior squad posts solid-enough numbers (averaging 43 in its Season Opener), a frankly middling team like Manager tbst06's doesn't get you two blowout wins back-to-back against rivals like Mali's Great FC and Kinabalu Kings. Any other club with such middle-of-the-pack talent would be playing these equal-to-superior challengers to a draw, and would be glad about it. But, in this case, the club is managed by tbst06, and it seems like the guy knows a thing or two about football. While maintaining his squad (again: solid, but nothing to write home about), tbst06 has seen to the fundamentals of his operation, plowing money into the assets that count: training schools and Tonybch Stadium. None of these buys have turned out big pay days yet (not enough wins or pro seats to command top dollar at the box office, and many solid but not stunning graduates from Tonybch club schools), but with an operation as strong and mature as this, it's only a matter of time. Bottom line: don't rest on your laurels with this guy. He's seen a few things, and he'll take your trophy (and your pride) if you're not careful. == The Best Div 5 / Group 189 Manager: Austin WAN Gentlemen, The Best football club is managed by a thing of beauty. And like its mistress, this squad will bewitch you with its looks while hammering out a win where you expected a lazy, stroll-in-the-park draw at worst. So keep your heads (and hands) in the game, gentlemen. That said, while Madame WAN has concentrated on a series of hostile buys to solidify her squad's core and lead her club out of Division 5, her back office staff have been less diligent. The box office last season dropped season ticket prices so low that the Eye of Odin Stadia were left without any general seating game-day ticket sales for many games, forcing the fair manager to depend on her 6000-seat VIP section to stay above water. Add to this sub-par data collection by The Best's technical director and scout, leaving Madame WAN to make frenzied, sometimes over-priced buys just to keep the senior squad competitive. Worse, the club's physiologist and psychiatrist still fail to return the team to top form, their mistress manager having called the players back to work nearly a week ago. Still, while staff failures led to an unbecoming loss to Kounan Party at the RFM Power Leage Season Opener, Madame WAN directed her players to a decisive win where it counts: The Best's Season 8 debut in Div 5 / Group 50. There's no doubt the mistress manager will best her company's staff challenges and return her club to quality football and cascading wins worthy of its name. But in the meantime, The Best football club will remain a worthy, tenacious competitor, but unlikely a titleholder. == Kounan Party Div 5 / Group 151 Manager: Kounan Kounan Party fields a respectable but not extraordinary 1st team, the senior players averaging 42.1 ratings in Friday's Season Opener. But smart and active management from the back office have turned this average squad into a very tough opponent. Witness the team's Season 8 debut against better-equipped Jumuttery United, followed closely by a solid win against Madam WAN's The Best club. These strong wins might be dismissed as early-season luck that depended on poor fitness staff work at those rivals' home stadiums. But Manager Kounan's diligent and careful tending haven't been limited to game day. In addition to building well-run schools in Brazil and neighboring Croatia, and maintaining a moderate-sized but posh (if over-priced) stadium in the heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kounan's turned in consistently dependable cash flow statements, with contract sales topping acquisition costs at about 2-1. The real question for Kounan Party is whether its eponymous-named manager can convert solid club operations into trophies. A respectable 26-4-8 Season 7 record wasn't enough to lift this relegated-then-early-promoted squad to Division 4. And four recent private league contests saw KP turn in strong showings but no wins. Unless Manager Kounan is willing to search out strong senior buys to match his smart junior hostiling, Power League can expect more of the same from the Bosnians this season: strong and consistent performance, but no titles. == Cubeslim Div 4 / Group 13 Manager: cubeslim It's difficult to tell whether this German manager is good or just very lucky. Cubeslim has taken his namesake club from strength to strength, racking up promotions every season for the last three. But even after strong showings against better-equipped clubs like Dosso's Nigeria, observers are left wondering if they've seen genuinely great football, or just an average team taking advantage of their superiors' fitness office oversights. Questions still linger following Season 8's openers. True, a 7-0 win against out-matched NorCal United right on the heels of Cubeslim's hard-fought draw against stronger club Thousand Sons's out of shape players is nothing to sneeze at. And to be sure, there're certainly some good tactics happening at the club's popular The Cube stadium. But by all rights, this moderately-ranked team should not be in Division 4. And its run in RFM's Group 2 last season tells the tale. Against well-managed clubs like RFM veteran Retamar CF UK, Cubeslim could only manage a showing at 5th place, never seriously challenging the top of the table and barely edging out low-ranked teams like Hertha Berlin. And more assured performance doesn't appear to be on the horizon. Last season's unexpected hostile away of the club's star performer was never remedied, and the recent acquisition of over-priced Han Sheijbal is unlikely to balance things out at the front. Putting The Cube on more solid footing will require Manager Cubeslim to focus intently on senior squad buys and improving the quality of graduates at the club's schools network. In the meantime though, Power League rivals will get strong challenges from these Germans but shouldn't fear conceding the title. Cubeslim may be a Div 4 club, but it doesn't play like one. == NorCal United FC Div 6 / Group 243 Manager: DirtyD777 It's too bad that American Manager DirtyD777 signed-on with California's NorCal United FC for his first management gig. The club's Div 7 starting place last season didn't do justice to DirtyD's talents, netting his club an easy title in Group 88. While weak competition certainly played a role, Manager DirtyD's top-to-bottom remaking of his US club was just short of masterful, especially given mostly-meager cash-flow from the team's Candlestick Park home last season. And changes in California aren't over. Following the departures of two NorCal stars, -- both embarrassingly hostiled away due to the team's low salaries -- DirtyD ordered a fresh round of acquisitions for both senior and junior teams. Add to this new construction at Candlestick Park, -- likely a fresh set of Pro Seats, -- and respectably-financed schools turning out moderate progression juniors, and NorCal's Sactowner fans can look forward to another trophy this season, even if their senior players have to stare down Spain's fearsome but rudderless Miracle to get it. A Power League win will prove much more difficult, though. Coming off Div 7's low revenues only to be catapulted into RFM's Div 5-heavy Power League would prove daunting for any club, even one led by a manager of DirtyD's skill. But while these boys are unlikely to take home the prize, they'll fight hard for 3rd-place prize money, and they'll likely return to Season 9's RFM ready to equal all comers. == Dragon FC Div 5 / Group 63 Manager: DragonsLunch England's DragonsLunch started his career by firing almost everyone. A dozen teenagers had their dreams of athletic stardom abruptly ruined when the DragonsLunch regime took over. But while the guy's tactics may be ruthless, they work. The club's revamped 1st team fought to a win in Div 6's Group 580 last season. And it wasn't a fluke. In the club's RFM debut, the squad finished fourth -- in a Group 2 full of Division 5 teams. Now the pressure's on at the Stadium Arcadium to improve on last season's successes. But a slew of lingering weak spots may prove fatal. While Dragon FC has worked to reinforce key roles in its starting line-up with a recent buying round (including the pricey $11m acquisition of forward Manke Ban), the diminutive and rarely-full Stadium Arcadium and complete lack of farmhouses remain glaring liabilities with no planned remedies in sight. The first sign of the club's cloudy prospects came in the form of a draw against Spain's Kushi One club. With no manager at the helm and a squad out of shape and suffering from low morale, Dragon FC should've been able to put up a serious fight, even if outmatched. But this embattled English club could only play to a draw, with almost no scoring attempts to speak of and few completed passes in the mid-field. The one bright spot in Friday's Season Opener was the absence of off-sides faults, perhaps pointing to strong tactics in Manager DragonsLunch's playbook. But tactics alone won't net the Dragon FC boys enough to win Season 8's Power League, or much else. == Black † Grav€™ Div 5 / Group 255 Manager: ajju10 It's going to be tough for Black Grave. Brought on in the middle of last season to turn around a struggling club that could barely make the top 5 in its Division 6 Group, Manager Ajju10 opted for an early promotion to brighten the team's spirits. The move worked, improving the senior squad's then 2-3-13 record to a respectable 13-1-7 showing since Ajju's takeover, though only enough to barely avoid relegation back from whence they came. And that's where the boss's senior squad efforts ended. Just hours into his first day on the job, Manager Ajju pulled a DragonsLunch, issuing a batch of pink slips to despondent teenagers and even releasing handfuls of 40+ average players in the following weeks. The radical moves seemed to be aimed at preparing the ground for the Indian manager's real focus: finding cheap junior keepers and forwards, and charging his probably 80+ youth coach to prepare them for the market, or careers on Black Grave's senior squad. It's a long strategy, and while a half dozen of Ajju's young forwards have shown notable promise, none of them have fetched any big money yet. That matters, because since the start of his single-minded youth program, Manager Ajju has barred expenditures for new seating at Madhya Pradesh's ★ Graveyard 13® stadium, keeping revenue tight indeed. Top home game ticket sales last season were less than $700k. No, you are not seeing things. Less than $700 thousand. So there will be no buys to fill out and beef up BG's senior squad (which averaged less than 17 at its Power League debut versus Asante Union) because there's no money to pay for it. And this will cost Black Grave dearly in the Power League. By focusing on youth training to the negation of all else, Manager Ajju has so thoroughly hollowed out the rest of his club that they'll be lucky to avoid coming in dead last in Season 8's Real Futboll Managers cups.
