Here's some math for anyone who's curious:
After plotting several hundred staff salaries, it appears to me that they are governed by the following equation:
Weekly Salary = .005 x (P^4)
where P is the coach's percentage expressed as a whole number between 1 and 100 (eg, 83, not .83). This number is rounded to the nearest whole hundred.

The equation for the cost of a course (not a degree - you can place your own monetary value on golden balls) appears to be approximated very closely by this equation:
Cost for a one percent increase = 60000 * e^(.059*P)
where P is again the percentage as a whole number.

If you look at the cost of a course compared to the savings in salary, the most efficient single course purchase is to go from 66 to 67 percent. The course costs 2.95 million, but you save 5900 a week in salary. At this rate, it will only take 29.2 real calendar weeks for your decision to pay off.

If you look at maxing out your possible courses (giving a coach three separate courses for a 3 percent increase), the most efficient purchase is to go from a 49 average to a 52 average. This move will break even in 441 calendar weeks, or 8.5 years of game play.

So my recommendation is to never buy a course. Use golden balls, or be willing to pay a higher salary.
Also, you can see that the monetary value of each golden ball goes up significantly when you use them at the upper end of the coach spectrum. For example, using 200 golden balls to go from a 95 to a 99 saves you 71.4 million dollars in courses. Using 500 golden balls to go from an 89 coach to a 99 coach saves you 166,600 a week in salary.

Not entirely true. Some coaches with the same % have different salaries.

good effort though

@soli,
Actually, I think it is true. The game appears to track two decimal places for the coach's average, but only displays the rounded number. For some of my data points, there were 4-5 different salaries for the same percentage coaches, but they had predictable ranges (eg, range increased the higher on the scale you went). Graphing all of it resulted in the equation with a 0.996 R^2 value for concurrence. So if you really wanted to know how good your coach is, you can reverse engineer the equation to find out his or her detailed average.
Also, you might not be taking into account the salary difference for coaches whom you have trained... they are obviously going to have different salaries than the equation would suggest...

Nice work. But just want to point out that you can only use 3 regular courses on a staff member, the other 2 have to be the 100GB master courses. 25/05/2012 10:07
