First of all, let me stress that this thread is by no means in insult or a criticism of the current sim - I think compared to last season, it has moved on leaps and bounds to be where it is now.

But I still don't believe it is anywhere near complete, as there are certain tactical options that are pretty much amiss.

1 - Individual Man-Marking.

Imagine playing a team that you are better than man for man, but that team has ONE CF that is just too good. With individual man-marking, I could set my DFM to literally follow this dude all around the pitch - Similar to how many teams choose to Man-Mark Messi or Ronaldo.

2 - Long Ball.

Many teams like to play the long ball option, but not necessarily focus on counter attacking. Sven-Goran Eriksson used it for England during the early 2000's. An effective tool, especially if your team has taller players!

3 - Advanced tactics 'with' the ball, and 'without' the ball.

When my team has the ball, I want them positions in certain places. As opposed to when the opposition has the ball. An example would be the IM. If you were to take the same advanced tactics square, both 'with' and 'without' the ball, a clever strategist would choose to place the IM either in a position to receive the pass, or to intercept the pass.

4 - Control of passing.

Some people like their winger to run to the touch line, and cross. Others would like them to cut in, and pass. Some people would like their CDFs to pass their way out of trouble, and other would like them to simply boot the ball 70 yards away. If I am using two IM's, I will want one to gather the ball, and one to move in order to collect the pass. Whilst I can position players accordingly, I cannot get each player to specifically pass how I would like to!

I feel these are SOME of the options that would help teams develop tactically, and allow teams to fully utilise tactics in order to beat opposition teams.
The idea is that the sim hands over more control to the individual managers, creating an entirely 'rock-paper-scissors' scenario, whilst still taking into account the quality of the teams!

I hope this is something the developers plan to look into, to utilise for the future!

Completely agree...
we need more options...

even for faults... have the option to pass or shoot at goal...just to add a minor one...
but the ones you delineate Dee are very important.

Lol, other options that would be useful are strategies such as 'High Pressure'.

Rather than just pushing all the players 'upwards', your players actively pressure the opposition, wherever they may be.

This would also be very beneficial agains players with poor technical skills, and teams with poor stamina. This would also tie into 'tempo'. e.g. a faster team would prefer a higher tempo, as opposed to a slower/less technically sound team.

'Possession' Football.

If I was 2 - 0 up in a Cup game, I would much rather my team attempted to SPECIFICALLY hold onto the ball, rather than attempt to score.

I think ONE more thing I would like to mention (though separate to the thread), is the issue of SPEED.

Some players have no skill at all, yet they are born fast. I think the 'speed' attribute is too tied in to the forecast/progression of the players. Whilst I'm not saying speed should be a trainable ability, but it would make sense for some players to have speed as a natural ability.

Take Theo Walcott for instance, and Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane would be considered to be a 90+ player in this game, and Walcott a 70 or 80+ player.

yet Theo Walcott was super fast since he was in his mid teams, and I'm pretty sure that even at 14 years of age, he was still faster than Zidane has ever been!

hehe think we are a long way from FM12
But yes we should at a minimum have with ball and without ball, i have tried as best to position my players so they dont get f***ed if they lose the ball but also so they are not hold back inn offence, but i se in the simulation that sometimes i have got it right and sometimes not, fictional example. i lose the ball on oppenents half about 10 meters inn my backs then keeps runing up to support the attack, the opponent runs past my player unchallenced he is now at center half just run past my player, he comes just into my half, and then my back runs back, the iq of the players is ridicules, and just that example would greatly greatly improve the tacic options of the game, so it MUST come with without ball advanced tacics,
