MVP of the game
I'm playing in the lowest division. I face teams that hardly have managers who are still playing. So the players on these teams are generally unfit and have very little stamina. Now when a forward from the opposing team gets the ball he does the slowest dribble you will ever see, very effective tho. It takes him about 30 seconds to move the ball from midfield towards my goal. My defenders block him all the way but don't tackle, then my goalkeeper comes off the line, why? I don't know but it's frustrating because he leaves the net wide open when there is no need.

The defender is marking the forward so he must stay in goal and wait for the shot. In any case, the point is this: Why does the keeper come off the line when I have 2-3 defenders marking the forward? There is no need and it makes no sense. Is this being looked at? The forwards hardly score but when they do, it's upsetting. In a situation where there are 3 defenders and a goalkeeper to beat with a forward who is tired and pretty much useless, this should not happen.

Okay, I'm ranting here. The question is about the goalkeeper, can't he just stay on the line unless he is the only man to defend when the forward comes towards the box?

In my last game the forward scored in this very situation and honestly, I don't see why it should happen in this fashion. Anyone else annoyed with this.
Let me know guys, thanks again.

Golden Ball
I see it sometimes, the annoying thing is the time it takes to get the ball back.

I guess it probably just happens a lot less in div 4, so I've not really worried about it.

I have the same problem with my GK who keeps coming off his line when there is no need to. This also happens to my opponents.
I cant see anything in the tactics that could prevent this, so its like a bug which needs to be fixed by the designers.
It is really frustrating, when half the goals I concede are due to this.

GK comes in all shapes and sizes. there are keepers who stay back. and there are keepers who close down angles by coming forward, like pepe reina, manuel nauer.

Get defenders with good aggression. They close down on opponents and generally are quick to get into tackle. This too works both ways. A good early tackle can save a opponent opportunity. Early tackle missed will lead opponent a easy run to your goal.

Golden Ball
The location of the green line on the pitch also determines when they attempt a tackle. Too far back and they will wait until the CF is in the box. Also, better defenders will watch the slow CF in disbelief for a few seconds and then steal the ball .

The GK comes off the line when he determines that the forward has broken free.

So those red, yellow and green lines do not determine where the defense/midfield/forward lines play but where they tackle, shoot etc.?
I always thought that pushing up the green line meant playing an offside trap but it doesn't seem to be so.

You underestimate you GK. He is playing mind games with the striker. The striker expects GK to advance and try save, and finds him performing samba in the area. Distracting isn't it?
