sometimes, it looks like a waste to train goal keepers. It shouldn't be so.

Training GK isn't a waste it is just more difficult. This game isn't about being able to train every player up to be superman. You have to make choices. And if you don't train GKs that means you are going to be spending money in the market to get them from managers who do.

Whatever. But I still think it wouldn't be bad to have a separate trainer for GKs because that is more realistic. Maybe they should make their progression a bit different.

Remember absolute realism isn't the only goal of the game though. There are a number of things within the game you wouldn't want to give up that are highly unrealistic, playing 5 or more games a week for example.

The training system is specifically designed to force you to make tradeoffs. This isn't to say that it I think the training system is perfect, but the idea is to force you to interact with other managers and the market.

MVP of the game
^^ agreed.

We also have to remember that the training values shift from season to season (I think). Last year it was totally biased towards Mids.
This year, LF/RF and LB/RB (and GK if you isolation train them) are emphasized, and overall it's a bit less biased.

But I think at least a few small tweaks (i.e. Penalty shots and GK at least getting 5%) would help "balance" things out between realism and the strategic nature of this game.

I always post just underneath you, I promise it's just luck.

Don't forget that just because a player doesn't increase his average, doesn't mean he isn't improving nicely. Average really doesn't mean much anymore.

I think the system found in the game ManageZone (managerzone.com) does training really well.

Basically, you place a player on a 'field' along with an optional coach and let them train in a specific skill for as long as you like. You get a daily and weekly report on roughly how well they are doing in that specific training. Each player has hidden limits for each skill, and once reached, they will no longer train in that skill. Also, when they get old, they will start to lose skill points (similar to how it is here). You can hire as many coaches as you like, and each coach has his own set of skills. He can only give players a boost to their training as long as the player skill is not more than the coaches own skill.

To implement something similar to that here would require a complete overhaul of the training system, but i think it would be highly beneficial in the long run.

You comparing SM to another game and you want us to be similar to them too? I wouldn't really like it if every soccer managing game were nearly functioning the same way (would be boring). I want a variety of different things.

And you know we are not allowed to advertise like this right?

If the companies were able to get together and pull the best from each game out there and create a derivative work that only had the best features from each game, people would still pick it apart. I'm not quite sure where the link between various game ideas and a desire for manager (human players) homogenization comes from.

I'm not suggesting taking everything from ManagerZone as i think they do some things quite poorly (stadium management, for instance), but i like to point out what other games do well to hopefully inspire the team making this one to even greater heights. After all, nature and capitalism have both shown us that competition and adaption are what make an organism stronger and more survivable in the environment which it exists.

I wouldn't say I'm "advertising" for the other game. I actually like SM better and would prefer it to succeed in the long term. I'm merely using MZ as a reference for an idea that i think really works well for one specific aspect of the game.

Personally I find something rewarding about checking your squad after training and finding out where your players have grown. I wouldn't change a thing 09/11/2011 00:13
