Golden Ball
Hi,

Based on how averages are calculated (I've been ballparking this since the new sim was released, and have some decent data), and on watching the sim, it's pretty clear that these are the most important attributes for calculating average and are therefore the primary attributes for players:

GK - saves (duh!)
LB/RB - Speed/Strength
LDF/RDF - Strength and slightly less: Speed
CDF - Ball Steal/Strength and slightly less: Aggression
DFM - Ball Steal and slightly less: Technique/Aggression
LM/RM - Speed and slightly less: Technique/Dribbling
LIM/RIM - Pass/Speed and less: Dribbling/Technique
IM - Dribbling/Pass
OM - Dribbling and less: Leadership/Aggression/Technique
LW/RW - Dribbling/Speed and slightly less: Strength
LF/RF - Leadership/Speed and slightly less: Finishing/Dribbling
CF - Finishing and slightly less: Dribbling and less: Speed

Some of these are surprising - finishing is not a primary attribute of LF/RF or OM, only CF specialize in finishing. for midfielders, finishing is most important to LIM/RIM and LM/RM are not super important, IM is worst. Ball Steal matters most for central defenders CDF and DFM, but strength is more important for wing defenders.

I don't think these numbers tell us much about the players themselves, but in fact tell us more about how the simulator treats attributes' importance in different quadrants of the pitch.

Offensively, finishing is most important in the center of the pitch, and speed is more important on the edges. Dribbling is important everywhere offensively, and especially right in the center and on the wings. Speed is very important on the wings. Passing is most important in the inner midfield, and not as much on the wings.

Defensively, speed and strength are important on the wings, aggression and ball steal in the middle

This also means that there are certain attributes that are weak for each position that can be trained up very well with high progression to make super players:

LDF/CDF/RDF: speed is low, pass is very low
LB/RB: ball steal is low, pass is very low

LM/RM: finishing is very low
LIM/RIM: finishing/speed are slightly low
IM: finishing is very low
OM: low finishing/speed

LW/RW: low finishing, pass
LF/RF: low speed, pass, dribbling
CF: very low speed, pass

DFM: low pass

crossing the ball trains pass and speed for forwards, sprint obviously trains speed. shots on goal is good for finishing in midfielders, especially LM/RM, and I think clearances trains passing in defenders. Also, leadership is VERY important for both penalty kicks and penalty saves (penalty shots trains leadership primarily).

That's all for now.
