Oh goody . OK, here is where the private league can be useful. I'm about to watch your games and give specific advice on improving your lineup. First, Timonen: when you created your custom formation, you may have used a midfield position and dragged it to a defensive one. Even though @Rand's youtube video shows this and recommends it, this is buggy, and can cause your player to play in the old position instead of the new one. My advice: recreate your custom formation from scratch. I did this, and it fixed the out-of-position bug. @Gunnernic posted a note about this in the General forum (I think). I'll have more specific formation advice shortly. My team has been toasting both worse and slightly better teams, so I think I have a handle on the new sim. And, at the risk of losing to you folks in the private league, I'm going to share some of that knowledge OK, replies in a bit. |

My formation and tactics were really good before... but now it seems as if they gone completely the opposite. Just deleted all my formations and tactics, rebuilding them all from scratch and I've bought a few more players now to try and score more often. |

Hi, so, a few things. Your opponent played with much more effort than your team (slider closer to high effort) which always results in a few more goals. In addition, 2 CDF is not necessary to defend against 1 CF, and actually gets in the way some times, because they can't decide what they're marking. You also had them spaced so that there was always a space in the middle for the CF to slip through. More important was to shut down his OM and RW with a DFM (which you didn't field) and a LB (which you did). I have noticed, however, that players rarely shoot outside the box, so I would think against this team, an LB-LDF-CDF-RDF-DFM combo would be very effective at containing his forwards. Also, you need to hold the line. In advanced formation, don't let your defenders wander back, keep a high defensive line so you get more offsides calls for those breakaways. He scored all his important goals on breakaways that should have been offsides. On the other side, your offensive line of strikers also needs to hold their line. Don't let them wander into the box except on corner kicks! You had 14 offsides calls, and many would have been goals or at least shots. I also don't think LM/RM are a great asset unless you use them as advanced attacking players. In the midfield, they're kind of listless, and they don't keep possession like LIM/RIM. You only had 2 inner midfielders, which greatly reduced possession. With better feeding to your forwards, you would have scored a lot more. In other words, LM/RM are attacking players in this sim, LIM/RIM are assisters, they just feed the forwards like a mother to her baby. This is why I use advanced RIM/LIM instead of RM/LM. Only with 75+ LM/RM does the balance tip and they start being really effective as attacking and assisting players. Also, interesting fact: LW shoot and score more than RW. Don't know why, it was true in the old sim too. You also need to add a new tactic to increase effort when your team falls behind by 1 goal, and to nearly max it out when they fall behind by 2. This should fix some of these results. I do short passing until I get ahead by 2, and then switch to slightly more counterattack, the long lobs seem to trip up the other team's strategy if they're already losing, especially because the sim seems to be realistic in that a strategy shift mid-game befuddles the players for a few minutes . Hope this helps. Don't use any of this stuff against me (just kidding, I expect you to eat me alive next time we play, mkay?) |

I have bought an LIM, DMF and new LW and CF to help me. I have my tactics set to max effort when attacking and defending. How exactly can you hold a line? In my advanced formations I keep them high as to act like an offside trap but it doesn't seem to work. |

Timonen: he had 2 killer CFs in that game, and you lost 2 defenders to cards. The result is self-explanatory. In this sim, playing a single CF is not as effective as in the last sim. I'd recommend playing with 2 forwards, should increase your goal totals by 3-6 | 05/10/2011 18:22 |
