The release clause is great...and I agree it should exist. but there are some issues, obviously.

let's say I have a player 38 avg 20yr CF w/ Release Clause 2M, salary 5k for 4 years

If another team approached one of my better players in reality, and didn't make a first offer that put ink on a contract, my management would know about it. In some cases, a league office might. Then action would be taken.

What I would suggest when someone makes a hostile clause offer, rather than saying (this player wants more salary/years), the team should be alerted. I mean, if a team is going to make a hostile offer, then they should make one that cannot be refused, and if it was refused, then the team should know via the coaching secretary who picks up a rumor.

Another suggestion around the Hostile Clause is limiting a team to using it once per week or so. Teams have enough trouble dealing with the contracts of their own players, having them deal with the contracts of multiple players from other teams in a hostile environment takes resources and time. I'm saying it's easy to negotiate with a player who's on the market, but not so much when they have a contract that is currently in force.

In the tutorial, there is one line about "resign players of interest"... If you are new to the game here, you have no clue. You have no clue what positions are valuable, no clue what those red/green arrows beside your player mean, and no clue if $500k is a lot of money. I mean $500.00 is a lot of money to me. I noticed that you don't receive a team while your stadium is being built. Would it be possible to freeze certain types of transactions (direct sales, hostile clauses) for the first week of ownership, even freezing them all wouldn't necessarily be bad.

1) if a new player is taking over, then a week should give them time to familiarize themselves with the amounts needed.
2) if a players is taking over a new team after being fired, they should probably be put on ice for a week.

Finally, there should be a minimum duration for players to stay on teams, or some minimum number of games that a player must appear in prior to moving/firing them. Or there should be some maximum turnover ratio. I mean, you have a 25 player roster, 50 transactions in a month should be sufficient. That's a 200% turnover....or maybe make the number of transactions dependent on your coaching secretary... #transactions/month = 1/3 or 1/4 total percentage.

I like it. Most games that involve interaction between new and old users typically give their new users a 1-week newbie protection period to allow themselves to become familiar with the game and the system. No reason why there shouldn't be something like this here. Might even help prevent multi accounts if they're not allowed to sell players at low prices.

As for the team turnover idea, this might turn out terribly, but what about the concept of team chemistry? Grows by the day but takes a hit as you buy/sell players and it has a direct influence on team average.
Considering how the market is a key income for anybody who wants to become successful, there will need to be some sort of balance/exception (perhaps a couple designated "roster movement" spots or identifying the core players and applying huge chemistry hits to the change of personnel in players in those spots and less for any other players.

The latter is more of a major change to the system itself, but all of the realism of the game if it is applicable.

MVP of the game
Uh, there is a 10-day protection period from hostile clauses for newbies. Also a 20-day multi-offer protection period.
Banning any newbie trading simply means new users won't play, what can they do in the game if they can't have a go on the market?

Didn't know about the 10-day protection. :/

It's not so much preventing from being allowed to trade as it is being taken advantage of. Considering how there are those limitations already then I have no problem.

Slipi is correct - there is protection from hostile takeover for newbies and also at the start of each season. This seems like enough to me, once the season is moving along and managers have had time to set their salaries and re-signs, it should then be open to hostile take-overs, especially if ghost managers are sitting with quality players being wasted. 19/05/2011 12:53
